Bio

Jan Mohn, a Capricorn of the year 2022, born like Athena into the arms of a bear and concrete, likes to pretend to soar over the Pyrenees on the back of an eagle in telepathic search of lost shoes and only drinks coffee if cigarettes are involved.

Q&A

What was your favorite book as a child?

I loved (and still do) mythological tales. I read everything from King Arthur to all the Greek and Roman myths; Romulus and Remus and the creation of Rome, Prometheus, Hercules tales, Trojan War, Metamorphoses. But my absolute favourite stories were the ones my mom told me, which I, years later, would ask her about their origins only to have her tap her index finger against her temple and laugh: “From in here!“

What was the original reason or motivation why you started writing creatively?

Desperation.

What was the most adventurous or thrilling thing you ever did/experienced?

I once fell in love.

Do you listen to music while reading or writing?

I sometimes listen to music while writing, because when I am in an environment that’s not completely silent, music helps me concentrate. But I can also only concentrate with instrumentals and it helps me if it’s legato, because I feel like my thoughts then won’t fall into nothingness between notes. With classical music I love long violin sounds, it makes me ecstatic. So shoutout to Mozart and Moderat and catch me on the train with my headphones on.
